Prioritise education, Coast RC urges parents

COAST Regional Commissioner Mr Evarist Ndikilo. (File photo)COAST Regional Commissioner, Eng Evarist Ndikilo has urged parents in the region to change their mindsets and start prioritising education for their children.
He made the remarks during a graduation ceremony for Standard Seven pupils and Pre-Unit at St John Bosco Pre and Primary School in Kibaha Town on Saturday.
The RC noted that there are parents who believe in giving money and other expensive gifts to their children while forgetting that education is the most expensive gift of all.
"I am urging those parents to change their mindsets from now and start focusing on enabling their children to go further in their studies," he said.
Expounding, he added that our nation needs different types of professionals in all sectors including health, education and others, and the only way to have them is to emphasise on quality education from nursery to higher education.
He ended by saying that parents should not leave the whole task of educating the children to teachers alone, but the two need to work closely on the matter.
The Head of the School, Sister Fabiola, mentioned that the school has been able to maintain first position in Standard Seven examinations in Kibaha Town for several years, the secret being hard work and discipline.
However, she said that the school has no science laboratory and first aid rooms as well as shortage of buses to ferry pupils. A total of 27 Standard Seven pupils and 64 Pre-Unit graduated during the 9th ceremony.
