Tanesco Director General, Felchism Mramba
The
Tanzania Electricity Supply Company (Tanesco) yesterday announced a
week long power rationing countrywide to allow the testing of the new
542-kilometre long gas pipeline from Mtwara to Dar es Salaam.
Tanesco Director General Felchism Mramba told journalists who
toured the Kinyerezi I power plant yesterday that the gas plant
generating power from Songosongo will be switched off to allow the
testing of the new gas pipeline from Mtwara.
He however assured Tanzanians that they should expect reliable
power thereafter, when Tanesco starts generating power from the Mtwara
gas.
Mramba said gas from Mtwara has started being infused at the
Kinyerezi I and Ubungo II power plants and technicians are now testing
the Ubungo II power plant.
“We are going to switch off all Songosongo gas plants tomorrow
(today) so as to start connecting the gas pipeline from Mtwara and we
will run trials for a week,” he announced.
